The conceptuals for this session began with an elaborate studio-style truffula tree for us to pose baby Elliot atop, among other items in his Dr. Seuss themed room. Also, Elliot’s daddy is a firefighter, so we considered nestling him in boots and gear. Then I decided to make this more personal. I’m not a babies-in-things, prim and proper newborn photographer. I’m a lifestyle newborn photographer, and portraiture is not about props, it’s about a new relationship. Babies can do studios, sit in baskets or be molded into positions only possible with Photoshop, but the joy is in the simple connection with mom and dad. That’s where the beauty in Elliot’s first portraits shines through. Face time!
